Saint Rose of Lima Academy A Letter from the Principal
The administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students of Saint Rose of Lima Academy welcome the opportunity to have you visit our website and come to know about the life of our Academy. We are very proud of the excellent educational opportunities that we are able to offer the children who attend our school.
The Academy is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. This year we are in the process of completing the three year review of our accreditation in 2004 - 2005 for our educational project Learning With Style. We address the way students learn by incorporating the theories of learning styles, multiple intelligences, and differentiated instruction. In addition, our school is a Star School in the Diocese of Paterson for implementing our Middle States project.
Our teachers are highly qualified professionals each holding a Bachelor's Degree. Additionally, ten of them have Master's Degrees in the field of education. Continuing education is a priority and teachers take advantage of opportunities offered in implementing technology, identifying learning styles, using differentiated instruction, and advancing in religious foundations.
The students at Saint Rose of Lima Academy are the finest, the friendliest, and the most generous children you will ever meet. Each day they rise to the occasion of many new learning challenges. With the help of their teachers they strive to achieve academically, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Whether using a Smartboard, a computer, a textbook, or a pencil and paper, they are growing in knowledge, confidence, and skills for a productive future. They are becoming the leaders of our community, our church, and our country. Our Terra Nova standardized test scores attest to the success of their journey.
The Student Council, comprised of officers and representatives from grades 4 through 8, take the lead in promoting community among students in the school and reaching out to those in need through their work at the Morristown Soup Kitchen for which we received the Best Practice Award from the Diocese of Paterson. Our students excel in academics and participate in the North Jersey Spelling Bee, the National Geograpic Geography Bee, a variety of competitions through the New Jersey Consortium of Gifted and Talented Programs, Math-a-thon, Pennies for Patients, and this year we are enrolling the Odyssey of the Mind Program, an international competition for creative thinking and problem solving.
The parent community of the Academy provides never-ending support for teachers, students and programs. From fundraising to reading in class to making posters, our parents can be counted on to always make good things happen for our students. The Home and School Association is outstanding for its active role in the life of the school.
Our facility accommodates a new computer lab in addition to our science lab, library, cafeteria, and full sized gym. Our teachers incorporate the use of Smartboards, LCD projectors, ELMO projectors, listening centers, and overhead projectors to implement the curriculum of the Paterson Diocese which is derived from the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards.
Now that you have visited our website, we invite you to come to our school to see first hand what life is like at the Academy. Please call 973-887-6990 to make an appointment to meet us. We welcome the opportunity to celebrate our community with you.
Sincerely,
Ms. Tomlinson
