Saint Rose of Lima Academy
Philosophy

Father Owen B. Moran
Rooted in the belief that each person is a unique creation of God, conscious that we are all gifted with a life-long mission to become what God is calling us to be, St. Rose of Lima Academy exists to nurture, develop and help fulfill such an awesome destiny.

We believe each of us at St. Rose actively participates in God's on-going creation and we are humbled by this call. We strive to form a faith-partnership of administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents, working together to "live and make visible Christ's love" in this world through spiritual, academic, social and physical development.

It is this vocation that impels all that we do.

Saint Rose of Lima Academy - Mission Statement

St. Rose of Lima Academy strives to empower the members of its school community through its commitment to Catholic tradition and heritage. The needs of the whole child are met within a nurturing atmosphere centered on Jesus Christ and the Gospel message. The Christian values taught at home are reaffirmed and enhanced within a curriculum that emphasizes personal growth and responsibility as well as sensitivity and service to the larger community.

Our goals include:

  • encouraging each student to use his/her gifts for the betterment and benefit of all
  • proclaiming Gospel values in academic, athletic, and co-curricular activities
  • promoting academic excellence, self-discipline and self-control
Saint Rose of Lima Academy - History

St. Rose of Lima Academy initiated classes in the fall of 1961 providing classes for the first, second, third and fourth grades. Due to construction delays these classes were held in the Church basement. Then on December 18, 1961, the doors of the new school building were officially opened to the joy of pupils, teachers, parishioners and Reverend Alphonse Tuozzo, Pastor.
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Newark accepted the invitation of Bishop James McNulty to staff the school. Sister Regina Agnes was appointed as Superior Principal of the new educational mission. Sister Augustine and Sister Camille joined Sister Regina as the original faculty members.

The beautiful, new school facility was dedicated on April 28, 1962, with Bishop McNulty presiding.

Numerous improvements and additions have been made to the school facilities over the years including the Early Childhood Center, several classrooms, a science lab, library and computer lab. The spacious Gymnasium Parish Center was completed in 1986 and provides recreational and physical educational opportunities for our Academy students and our Parish.

Reverend Owen B. Moran joined the St. Rose community as Pastor in May 2003. Father Owen is a strong supporter of Catholic Education and can often be found visiting the classrooms and speaking with the children. Our Academy continues the original educational mission of its founders. Currently, Dominican Sisters and the Sisters of Saint Francis of the Providence of God of Pittsburgh, staff the school along with the dedicated lay staff.
