St. Rose Accreditation Update |
|
DIOCESAN SCHOOLS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE SYSTEM-WIDE ACCREDITATION VISIT. Last week, an eight member team from AdvancED Accreditation Organization visited the Diocese to evaluate our schools' progress toward a system-wide accreditation. The team delivered its initial recommendation that the schools receive the accreditation. Confirmation of this recommendation is expected within 30 days. The Diocese of Paterson will be one of the first dioceses in the northeast to receive this status. We at St. Rose are very proud of all the work that was accomplished by our faculty and staff to contribute to this diocesan-wide accreditation. |

Our sixth grade girls became the Morris County Catholic Basketball League champions in the JV6 division after their 31-26 win against St. Elizabeth School, Bernardsville, Saturday, March 10, at St. Elizabeth School. Ranked number one (17 wins 1 loss) and known for their tight defense the St. Rose Saints gave up an average of only 13 points per game during the season. They played their hearts out for a win against the number two ranked St. Elizabeth to become division champions. Thanks to our talented coaching staff, parents, teachers and families who have shown tremendous support for all of our teams and cheerleaders this season!

It's a New Age - Curriculum Enhancements |
|

Over the past year, one of the ways our teachers have been utilizing their SMARTBoards is to access internet based learning and enrichment programs such as IXL, Study Island, and Writing Roadmap. These programs, whether included in lessons in the classrooms, or accessed at home by the students, will continue to enhance and supplement the curriculum this year.
Each class contains a SMARTBoard, including the science lab. This feature is sure to boost the rollout of much anticipated STEM program, (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) to which we have been appointed a pilot school. |

"The Way of the Cross" Living Stations |
Students portrayed the final hours of Jesus’ life with a theatrical yet prayerful rendition of the Living Stations on Good Friday, April 6th. Depicting each station of Christ’s journey from his condemnation to his crucifixion at Calgary, the participants began the prayerful portrayal with the Last Supper and Jesus’ meditation in the Garden of Gethsemane. Narrators representing Jesus and his mother Mary led the audience along the “Way of the Cross”. Accompanied by the theatrical and moving music from the movie “The Passion of the Christ”, the audience watched silently and prayerfully, many moved to tears. The "Living Stations" are presented in the church every Good Friday, in the evening. |

A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE EAST HANOVER LIBRARY for their tremendous gift to our students in memory of Helen Sloane, who was a dear member of St. Rose of Lima Parish. We have received a one-year subscription for Study Island, a computer program that our teachers use to enhance the skills practice of our students in all subject areas. This web-based program will also be used as part of our STEM program in the middle school as well as the program being initiated this September in Pre-School through Grade 2. |
As part of our ongoing STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) Mr. J. Adam Scribner, Science Professional Development Specialist from Stevens Institute of Technology, was on hand for another STEM project: BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING. Students in their mixed grade groups (6 - 8) were to design a device to remove a blood clot from an artery. Their supplies included a ping pong ball (the blood clot), a paper towel tube (the artery), craft sticks, straws, rubber bands, pipe cleaners, tape and string. A great afternoon of creative thinking!
